Yet To Be The Hosts
Every two years, the Olympic Games are held in a different country, bringing global attention and heightened tourism. At this point, it feels like the games have been everywhere around the globe, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Although some countries have the right infrastructure, culture, and fan bases to host, they're yet to do so. Here are just five you might be surprised have never hosted an Olympic Games all these years.
1) India
Despite having one of the biggest populations in the world, India has yet to host an Olympic Games, summer or winter. While they have hosted other major international events in the past, like the Commonwealth Games, they simply haven't won the luck of the draw yet. At the very least, their track record shows they have the capabilities to do so, though!
2) Nigeria
Although Nigeria has proven themselves to be one of Africa's most prominent sporting nations, the country has yet to host the Olympics. Perhaps with more investment in transportation, security, and competition venues, they'll put themselves in the running in the near future.
3) South Africa
South Africa has yet to put the Olympic Games on their resume, though they've hosted other big events in the past like the FIFA World Cup. With its growing tourism in popular major cities, perhaps they'll be able to make a solid bid in the future to be the homeground for a summer Olympics.
4) Mexico
Mexico regularly makes appearances in many global sporting competitions, but since the modern era of the Olympics, they're a country that has yet to host. They've even hosted the FIFA World Cup twice! With such a vibrant culture, we're sure it'll happen some day in the future.
5) Indonesia
Over in Asia, one country that has yet to make its mark on the Olympics is Indonesia. Though both its economy and international visibility has grown tenfold lately, they need to continue developing and improving their transport and venues to make it on the list.
